Guinea Pigs Don't Bounce is based on extracts from Denis' Chirgwin's diary covering the first year of Animals at Home, the pet care company he and his wife set up on the Isle of Wight in 2003. The company has since developed into a nationwide chain of 60-plus area franchises. Launching Animals at Home was very much a leap into the unknown for Denis. His early encounters with a variety of animals – and their equally diverse owners – provide a series of hugely entertaining snapshots of pet ownership and care in the UK. Denis tells it like it was – the ups and the downs, the successes and the failures, the straightforward assignments and the bizarre, the pleasure and sometimes the pain of caring for other people's much-loved pets. Humour binds it all together. The book is illustrated throughout in full colour with delightful cartoon images by Dave Ball.
